2004L.A. Style

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

L.A. is the city of smart casual style: a look that is always pulled together, but cool – easy-to-wear pieces, faded or flashy colors, little hippy chic touches… All structured with a light-colored tuxedo jacket worn in the evening:

1303Variations on the Peter Pan collar

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

Today we’re focusing on the Peter Pan collar! Preppy, girly, romantic or revisited… Wear it to match your style or your mood!

To model the looks, Marie Charlotte, a sales assistant at Comptoir and a law student, is posing for us. This young lady, who has decided on a career as a lawyer, satisfies her passion for fashion by working in the boutique on rue de la Paix in Paris.

The “Preppy girly” look: a deceptively well-behaved little girl vibe for this Peter Pan collar in the finest tradition. Think Zooey Deschanel for inspiration…

1410Comptoir at the Farmer’s Market

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

Don’t tell us that you thought the Farmer’s Market was has-been… Today, nothing could be trendier! Going to the Farmer’s Market is something everyone loves: urbanites longing for authenticity, foodies, aficionados of regional products and anyone who prefers fruits and vegetables that don’t taste industrial. Enjoy a leisurely stroll, take the time to look at and taste all the delicious market products and talk to local producers in a lively, welcoming atmosphere. You’ll have a great time!

But what should you wear? Something simple, comfortable and stylish! Of course! Jeans, sneakers, a big bag to put your groceries in, a light sweater (it can be chilly in the morning) and a coat. Why red? We have some experience in the matter: as you rarely go to the market alone (although you certainly could if you wanted to) and you’re often accompanied by your loved one or a girlfriend, you’ll see that the two of you often get separated. As you admire the tomatoes, you don’t notice that your shopping partner is three stands ahead of you. But, if you wear a bright color, you’ll be easy to spot in a jiffy! And when the weather gets colder, we recommend a shearling coat for a cool, chic Bobo look that’s simply ideal:

Comptoir des Cotonniers:

- Red London trapeze coat

- Shearling coat

- Large fawn-colored shopping bag

- Danube blue skinny jeans

- Sailor-style sweater

- Candice Cooper sneakers

Now that we’re dressed, where do we go?

1609Indian summer in Biarritz…

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

Those in the know are well aware that the best time of year for visiting Biarritz is September. From being a busy hot-spot at the height of summer, the town becomes calmer, less crowded and the weather is milder… That’s why we recommend that you make the most of the Indian summer in Biarritz – and we truly envy those who can go there for a weekend or a vacation late in the season!

1805Comptoir at Hyères International Fashion Festival

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

At the end of April, Comptoir was in Hyères for the International Fashion and Photography Festival, the place where young and talented designers of all nationalities presented their work before a prestigious jury, including this year (among others) Raf Simons, who chaired the jury, the two designers from Proenza Schouler, journalists Cathy Horyn and Tim Blanks…  And the public. Something not to be missed!

The right outfit: the Hyères festival has become an unmissable fashion event and we often hesitate between several cutting-edge looks – competition is stiff! – and a casual feel to match the vacation and sunshine atmosphere! Even better still is to mix the two.

So here was the ideal wardrobe: A little black summer dress that can be worn day and night, flat sandals (regulars have quickly understood that heels are unworkable in Hyères), a wide-brimmed straw hat and a printed canvas carry-all tote, perfect for carrying your laptop, all the festival documentation and even a spare pair of shoes!

2303Comptoir in Lille

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

Thank you to all of you who gave us your top addresses and tips for Lille! We had so many suggestions that we’ve ended up preparing a real Lonely Planet guide for you…

So what comes up most often in your comments is 1/ that you have to take a stroll through Old Lille with its boutiques, cobblestone streets and countless cafés 2/ that Lille is all about the food! And, on this topic, there is no shortage of restaurant recommendations:

Chez la Vieille for its good Flemish cuisine: pasta, beef stews, goat’s cheese waffle, home-made purée and its ice-creams and regional deserts… Yum yum!

1103A quick tour of… Paris Fashion Week

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

The Fall/Winter 2011/12 shows have just finished in Paris and, like every season, we were there!

So, first of all, what was the right outfit for braving the masses, the pushing and shoving (yes, it’s true), waiting in the cold (it was especially cold this season, even though the sky was bright blue for once!) and the shows’ overheated rooms?

1802Mondrian style

Published by Miss Comptoir COMPTOIR STROLL

The Pompidou Center is currently showing a major retrospective devoted to Piet Mondrian, the father of geometric abstraction, along with the avant-garde De Stijl movement, in which he played a key role.

Mondrian is remembered for his geometric compositions based on straight lines according to a horizontal/vertical dialectic, and the creation of relationships between colored surfaces, tint areas in primary colors juxtaposed with non-colors such as white, black and gray. Mondrian created some one hundred paintings based on this principle between 1912 and 1938.

Art often inspires fashion and this is true of Mondrian’s esthetic. It was a particular inspiration for Yves Saint Laurent and JC de Castelbajac (to mention just two names) who both created clothes, dresses and jackets in homage to the famous painter.

This year, the trend is precisely for “color blocks”, the pictorial neo-grammar that advocates the juxtaposition of brightly colored tint areas. A chromatic energy that is perfectly illustrated by this quote from Mondrian: “Everything is composed by relation and reciprocity. Color exists only through another color, dimension is defined by another dimension, there is no position except in opposition to another position,” he said.

Short jacket, long-sleeve T-shirt, Mykonos blue skinny jeans, waist-hugging belt and pointed ballet pumps with flap, available in stores.
