In Moodzic this week, we bring you a trio of French bands who sing in English.
We begin with Duellum. This quintet of Frenchies met in the lecture theatres of Science Po University and were united by their love of music. They had only just started playing together in their garage when Arthur and Jonathan left for England. They came back with a new generation of indie rock in their bags, fuelled by the buzz of London’s bars. Their tunes are fresh, lively and guaranteed to get feet tapping. Their latest release is the 6-track EP For Some Reasons I Want To Talk.

Séverin follows up his 2009 album Cheesecake, which had 14 songs for 14 different girls, with a new solo LP, L’amour Triangulaire. This electro-tinged opus has a real old-school 80s sound and recounts tales of failed love. The lyrics brim with humour and nous, while the music is somewhere between pop, new wave and electro. Séverin himself describes his style as “French dance-pop” and you can’t say his music doesn’t get you moving!

Concrete Knives: we love this band, as you can tell from the fact that their music is used in our spring-summer 2012 video and in our advertising campaign’s “making-of”. The Concrete Knives, 5 bubbly characters from Normandy, deliver fresh, rousing pop fuelled by a real joie de vivre. And their enthusiasm becomes more infectious still when you listen to their sharp and tangy pop and experience the dynamic created by five voices unfurled in unison. They release their first EP You Can’t blame the Youth in April, having been singled out as one of the best new acts at the Printemps de Bourges festival.
Their success continues to grow and their name has even been mentioned on the other side of the Channel. Keep an eye on these guys! On our blog, you can hear two of their best known tracks, Brand New Start and Happy Mondays.
