2707Moodzic #38

This week’s Moodzik brings you a couple of our recent favourites from the electro side of things, two UK groups you will be able to catch at festivals this summer.

Hot Chip, a quintet from London, have just released their 5th album, In Our Heads, which bustles with well crafted electro-pop whose R&B tones are remastered with a dancy, mechanical flavour. A hint of 80s funk adds the vintage touch that today’s electronic artists are so fond of. We were entranced by the plaintive, sensual, almost Prince-like voice of Alexis Taylor, who co-founded the band with Owen Clarke. Prepare to fall in love with One life Stand and Night and Day.

Next up are Citizens!, who recently released their aptly-named first album Here we are. Proof again that when a group of five Londoners get together, they know how to make seriously good music, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, who produced their album. Their brand of electro-pop is both imaginative and soulful, with catchy, organic sounds that stay in your head without ever being clichéd. The singer’s delicate voice tops off the music beautifully, carrying the melodies to perfection. Citizens! reminds us that music is also for dancing to. Watch out girls, you’ll have trouble controlling your hips with tracks such as Let’s Go all the Way and Nobody’s Fool.
