What we love about Lutheen’s illustrations is not just her draughtsmanship or her fresh and mischievous world, but also her sense of fashion. It’s not surprising as the young lady has also studied design alongside visual communication. After a few difficult years, she is now a successful illustrator with a succession of projects in the pipeline.
Despite her rather busy schedule, she agreed to share her art with us through three Comptoir looks.

Hi Lutheen, you are an illustrator. Tell us a little bit about your career path and your projects.
I did visual communication and design studies. I used to work as a graphic designer for a sportswear company.
I have been an illustrator for over three years and I struggled for two years like any illustrator starting out! Today things are different, I’m up to my ears in work ^^ I work mainly in the textile industry so that I can combine my two passions: fashion and drawing! I have a thousand projects on the go at once, and it’s really hard to keep everything under control, but right now, I’m spending most of my time on a big project for a website offering good ideas for going out in Paris: www.gustave-et-rosalie.com. I’ve done all the artistic direction and the illustrations. It went live a week ago, it’s my baby ^^ Go and have a look ^^!
What are your subjects of inspiration? Your style?
I have lots of different subjects of inspiration: fashion, photography, interior design, nature, prints, etc. An idea is often sparked by something insignificant, a feeling, a pretty pose, a color, etc. My illustrations are fresh, colorful and sparkling! I need my drawings to look like they have come from a dream.
Do you also work with photography?
Yes, just for certain elements that I want to have a very realistic result, such as hair for example. Then, I am often obliged to use it when I have to draw specific people, such as Ashley Smith for Diesel.
Which artist do you feel closest to?
The closest, I don’t know. As for inspiration, it comes and goes depending on my latest discoveries. At the moment: Kelly Smith, Telmolindo and Alicia Malesani.
Fashion and clothes are very much part of your universe. Where does that come from?
Undoubtedly from the addiction I’ve always had to clothes! I have fun getting dressed, I like pretty materials and colors; I wear almost everything. My illustrations and my wardrobe are very similar.

- two-tone shirt
- linen shorts
- sunglasses
Is it the same in your everyday life? Is fashion important to you?
Yes, fashion is important even though I choose what I like, I don’t totally follow all the trends.
What is your view of Comptoir?
For me, Comptoir is fashion that speaks to women of all ages. Easy-to-wear pieces that are always very well cut with beautiful materials that you feel good in.
How did you work on your Comptoir looks, from choosing the pieces to the final pencil stroke?
First of all, I chose clothes that I would wear. I wanted to highlight pieces that we want at the moment: slightly bare and very colorful.
For the compositions, I wanted three very different worlds but for each atmosphere to reflect the arrival of summer.
I drew the looks in pencil and then I added color with watercolor. Apart from that, I did a few small details and stains. Then came scanning and layout in Photoshop.
